The Door That Knew My Name
Rose was a quiet girl who loved the little things—the way sunlight filtered through her bedroom window, the smell of fresh flowers, and the stories she lost herself in after school. Her days were simple: school, homework, and walks with her best friend Mia. Nothing exciting ever happened, but Rose liked it that way. She felt safe in the ordinary.
Her family was close but not rich. They lived in a small house where laughter and small arguments mixed together at dinner. Rose’s parents worked hard to give her and her little brother a good life.
One day, everything shifted.
Rose’s dad had been looking for better work for a long time. Then, unexpectedly, he landed a new job — one that would pay him millions. It was a chance to give the family everything they’d ever wanted.
After a month of excitement and planning, her parents told Rose they were moving. They were going to leave their small town and live in a huge, old mansion far away.
Rose was excited but also scared. A new house meant a new life. And sometimes, new lives hide secrets waiting to be discovered.

The mansion was huge and quiet—way bigger than Rose’s old home, it had six rooms. Every room felt empty, with high ceilings and old wooden floors that creaked when she walked. At first, Rose thought it was exciting to explore, but after a while, the silence started to feel heavy.
She missed the warmth of her old neighborhood—the laughter from neighbors, the sounds of kids playing outside. Here, the only noises were the distant wind and the occasional drip of water somewhere far away.
At night, Rose lay in her new bedroom, staring at the ceiling, wondering if she’d ever feel at home here.
Her parents seemed busy with unpacking and her little brother was fascinated by the endless space to run around.
But Rose felt… different. Like the house was watching her, even when no one else was around.
Even though the mansion was big and strange, Rose brought with her one small treasure—a delicate silver locket shaped like a flower. It was her grandmother’s gift, and she never took it off. Whenever she felt scared or lonely, she would hold it tight and remember the warm afternoons spent in her grandma’s garden, surrounded by blooming roses.
Sometimes, when the house was too quiet, Rose would sit by the big window in her room and watch the trees sway in the wind, wishing for the familiar sounds of her old home. She missed Mia’s laughter, the smell of fresh-baked cookies, and even the hum of busy streets.
But mostly, Rose felt a quiet unease she couldn’t explain—like the mansion held secrets just beyond the walls, waiting patiently for her to discover. After some days that went by a blur she couldn’t stay homesick all along, a little time later she got used to the big mansion. Rose had this one thing that she hated-she always sleepwalked. One creepy night at 2:30 she felt extra thirsty, so she got up from her bed and started walking slowly towards the kitchen.
Little did she know that simple night was about to change her life. The floor creaked and groaned like it was almost a century old, Rose finally reached the kitchen she took a glass and filled it up with cold refreshing water, after that she was steadily walking back to her room but suddenly she tripped over something and fell “ That hurt“.
She murmured, as she was trying to get up, she saw a fainting light, a light that seemed like it was calling her and she walked slowly toward that door. She was clearly not herself, a faint sound was echoing through the hallway, and then suddenly ‘BOOM’ she snapped back into reality and realized a plate had fallen from the shelf and shattered.
Her parents entered the hallway with worried faces as they saw Rose shocked and scared “ What happened Rose are u ok “ her parents asked, she replies “ Mom look at this door it was not here when we moved here just a few months ago “ Both her parents turned to look at each other in shock, after a moment of silence they said “ Rose there is no door here, are you sure your not dreaming “. And when Rose looked back again, it was gone, the door had disappeared.
The next morning Rose woke up and started her first day of her new school. It was a private school-rich and luxurious, she made friends really quickly and got used to the school environment. 8 months later life was going very good, and rose finally stopped feeling homesick with the support of her parents and her 2 besties in school- jasmin and Leah, but Rose could never forget her 1 true friend that stood by her every part of life “Mia”.
One pleasant night with the night sounds and peaceful sound of rain the smell of rain and earth was heaven, Rose dozed off in her room. Suddenly there were faint noises just like that night, Rose got scared, and suddenly she felt paralyzed, then she slowly got up even though she didn’t want to and slowly made her way towards the door, she heard creaking sounds inside as soon as she was about to open the door it disappeared.
She snapped back into reality again and found out that her brother had woken up to get water, Rose picked up her brother and gave him some water and rocked him back to sleep. After that she couldn’t sleep till morning and finally slept for only 2 hours that night. The next morning when she went to breakfast she felt ignored as nobody believed her for the door and then she murmured “ ugh so much for the door to be opened once”.
Then she got an idea, after breakfast she quickly called her bestie Mia and told her this and then as soon as Mia heard this she came to her home for a time-spending trip with Rose for a few weeks, both their parents have agreed for them to stay together and 2 days later Mia was In Rose’s mansion. Rose got very excited and hugged each other after what felt like the longest time.
They enjoyed the day and at night the mystery began. After Rose and Mia made sure that everyone was sound asleep they silently crept outside of their bedroom and slowly went towards the door with Mia, side by side stuck close together they slowly reached the door. Then suddenly Rose saw a painting that she had never seen before, she was shocked, and quickly told Mia that she had never seen it before
.To their utmost horror, a little faint light came from underneath the door and lit up the painting just enough to find out what it was containing and soon found out it was “ROSE” they both murmured together. “But how ?” Rose asked shocked, Mia carefully picked up the painting and looked behind it to see it written 760 years old, they both were equally speechless and shocked to the core then wasting no time they finally opened the door.
As the heavy door creaked open, the smell of old wood and dust filled their noses. The light that poured out was golden, soft, and strange—like it didn’t belong to this world. Rose stepped in first, locket glowing against her chest. The room inside was nothing like the rest of the mansion. It looked ancient, like a place frozen in time.
There were candles floating in mid-air, gently flickering. Books and scrolls lined the shelves, some with her name written on the covers. At the center of the room stood a pedestal—and on it, was a mirror. But it didn’t show their reflections. Instead, it showed another girl, dressed in royal clothes. She looked just like Rose… but older and wiser. Suddenly, the girl in the mirror looked at them and whispered,
“She has returned.”
Mia gasped. “Rose… this can’t be happening.”
But Rose couldn’t take her eyes off the mirror. The locket around her neck burst into a soft glow.
Behind them… the door slammed shut.
Mia was shocked and crying hysterically, begging rose to stop whatever she was doing, but Rose couldn’t even feel her presence, suddenly her gaze shifted to the mirror.
It was a countdown… a countdown for 7 nights, then her flower golden locket started glowing like the golden breeze.. like royalty. There was something Rose started to realize, she felt like the locket her grandmother had given belonged to the other Rose. Suddenly the mirror starts to go bonkers and finally it read
“You have 7 nights to solve this mystery, be careful one wrong move and you will never see daylight again”
Rose was shocked, horrified, and very overwhelmed and let’s just say Mia was done for, she had fainted and suddenly it was like Rose had returned to her original self and she looked behind and then she found Mia on the floor she screamed “Mia wake up what happened” and suddenly they were teleported back to their rooms as Rose’s parents burst in and said, “What’s all the commotion here” Rose and Mia wanted to tell everything to them… reveal everything to them. But something kept their mouths Zipped.
6 Nights Left
Rose woke up with a sharp gasp, her hand clutching the glowing locket. Morning light streamed through the curtains, but her heart was still racing as if the night had never ended. For a moment, she hoped it was all a dream.
But the locket was still warm.
Mia sat up in bed, pale and quiet—very unlike her usual self.
“Rose,” she whispered, “tell me that mirror wasn’t real.”
Rose didn’t answer. She already knew the truth.
The entire day felt wrong. The mansion was quieter than usual, as if it was holding its breath. Clocks ticked too loudly. Shadows lingered longer than they should. Rose noticed something strange—whenever she passed a mirror, her reflection seemed… delayed. Just for a second.
That night, exactly at 2:30 a.m., the locket pulsed.
Rose sat up before she could stop herself.
Rose swallowed hard. “And if I don’t want to remember?”
The Guardian’s voice softened—almost sadly.
“Then the house will remember for you.”
Suddenly, the walls began to shift. A new door appeared—smaller, darker.
The Guardian pointed.
“Your first truth lies beyond that door. Enter before dawn… or lose one memory forever.”
Mia grabbed Rose’s arm. “Rose, we can’t—”
Rose looked down at her glowing locket, then at the door.
Somewhere deep inside her, something ancient stirred.
“I think,” Rose said quietly, “this house won’t let me run anymore.”
She stepped forward.
The door creaked open.
5 Nights Left

The Memory Room
The door led Rose and Mia into a room filled with floating memories.
Laughter. Music. A throne room.
Rose saw it clearly now—she had once been Queen Roselyn, ruler of the hidden realm inside the mansion. The house was built to protect magic. The locket was the seal.
But then the memory darkened.
She saw someone she trusted stab her from behind.
The room collapsed.
When Rose woke up, one small memory was gone—she couldn’t remember her first day of school with Mia.
The house was taking payment.
Rose was confused, but Mia was beyond words—she was angry, sad, and wanted to go back to her house. But she couldn’t. She knew she could not leave Rose alone to fight for herself.
The next morning, they went to school like nothing had happened.
At least, they tried.
Rose noticed the whispers first.
Two girls from her class—girls who always competed with her—were staring. One of them smirked.
“She thinks she’s special,” one whispered loudly.
“Probably rich-girl drama,” said another.
Mia snapped back instantly, but Rose barely heard them.
Every reflective surface showed something wrong.
In the bathroom mirror, Rose’s reflection stood straighter.
Her eyes glowed faintly gold.
She looked older. Stronger.
And alone.
Rose turned away quickly.
The next day was different-
That day they had FUN.
For once, they forgot everything and went to a park far from the mansion to take their minds off things. They played, created sand castles, laughed until their stomachs hurt.
For a few hours, Rose felt normal again.
Then at lunchtime, Rose and Mia went to a small café. They settled down and were about to order when Rose felt something strange.
She looked down at the glass plate.
Her reflection wasn’t hers.
It was Queen Roselyn’s.
Calm. Powerful. Lonely.
Rose showed Mia, but they didn’t take it seriously.
“Probably stress,” Mia said, smiling.
But Rose didn’t miss how the reflection smiled after she looked away.
Night 4 — The Gallery
At night, the mystery began.
Rose was pulled out of bed by Mia.
“Rose, come on. I found something.”
Together they went to the door.
This time, it led to a Gallery.
Once inside, they saw a large painting on a pedestal.
It was Roselyn on a throne—and beside her was none other than Mia.
“WHAT? How am I in the photo?” Mia asked confused.
“Even in completely different realms, we cannot stay without each other,” Rose replied, chuckling.
Then Rose collapsed.
The Truth
In the vision, Queen Roselyn stood before her mother.
“Mom, why am I the protector of this magic? It’s controlling me. I don’t want this.”
Her mother gasped.
“Roselyn, are you out of your mind? If you don’t continue, the magic breaks. The world will be destroyed.”
But Roselyn knew.
It was a lie.
The world didn’t need a protector.
The magic needed control.
Rose woke up to Mia crying hysterically. They hugged and left the room.
But something was wrong.
Rose couldn’t remember the day she became friends with Mia.
Why was the magic taking only her friendship?
The Cost
At school, the drama worsened.
Girls mocked her quietness. Teachers said she seemed distracted.
Mia defended her every time.
In the mirror, Rose’s reflection wore a crown now.
Her eyes were colder.
The reflection whispered,
“Power requires solitude.”
Rose shook her head. “No.”
3 Nights Left
The Realization
The mirror showed the truth.
The magic didn’t want Rose to rule.
It wanted her alone.
Every bond weakened her control.
Mia was the strongest bond of all.
Rose cried that night, holding the locket.
2 Nights Left
The Choice
The throne room returned.
The reflection stood tall, glowing, magnificent.
And empty.
Mia whispered, “Even if you forget me… I won’t forget you.”
That broke the spell’s hold.
1 Night Left
Rose stood before the flame.
She looked at the locket—her grandmother’s gift, her past, her power.
And she burned it.
The mansion screamed.
The mirrors shattered.
Queen Roselyn smiled for the last time—not as a ruler, but at peace.
Rose woke up to sunlight.
The house was normal.
School was normal.
Mia was beside her.
Her reflection was just a girl again.
And somewhere far away in time, Roselyn finally rested—free.
THE END.
