Book review : Cheating for the Chicken Man
Author: Priscilla Cummings
Genre: Fiction
Published in: 2016
Have you ever cheated to save someone from bullying? This is how Kate Tyler helps her brother, J.T.
Following the release of J.T (Called the chicken man, due to the family business), from a juvenile detention center in which he was incarcerated for causing a major offence, he encounters vicious bullying at school as he attempts to make a fresh start.
Kate Tyler, tries to stop the bullying, even when it involves cheating. She compromises her values and risks getting involved in serious trouble, as she launches a secret campaign to protect her brother. Kate is a savior, trying to not only save her brother and her family, but also the chickens that usually tend to fall into deplorable conditions.
This novel is a masterpiece for more than one reason. The language used is quite rich, and I have learned many new words because of this. In my opinion, this novel is very entertaining which makes you want to read it again and again.
Great work done by the author, Priscilla Cummings as she touches on many issues from environmental concerns to pains of growing up, from bullying to forgiveness, yet she manages to keep the story engaging.
The story is a bit lengthy; it describes every event, which might be considered a good thing but this might lead to the disinterest of the reader.
Nevertheless, I would recommend this book to 12 + years. I would rate this 4.5 out of 5 and it is a must-read!!
