Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief I Book Review by Aaryaman
Book Name – Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief
Introduction
“Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” is the first book in the book series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” This book is a fantastical novel that mixes up school life and Greek Mythology. I feel that this was done as the intended audience was students and they could connect to this.
Main Character
The main character, Percy Jackson, is diagnosed with ADHD & dyslexia. However, this book shows that something like this can actually be a superpower. This is because ADHD improves your battle reflexes.
About the book
The story starts with Percy going on a school trip. However, his math teacher turns into a monster & he is forced to vaporize her. Later, Percy learns that he is a demi-god (child of a god; half-human, half-god) and Grover is a satyr (half-man, half-goat).
After this incident, he is sent to Camp Half-Blood. As the name says, it’s a camp for demigods like him, to train for battle. He also becomes best-friends with a girl named Annabeth Chase. They then form a trio (Percy, Annabeth, Grover).
A quote from this part is when Percy sees the Minotaur taking his mom. This is right at the entrance of the camp.
“Then, with an angry roar, the monster closed its fists around my mother’s neck, and she dissolved before my eyes.”
This shows how dramatic Rick Riordan can be, and how every paragraph hooks the reader. It also uses literary devices such as imagery (exactly what happened), tension, and foreshadowing, as it tells the reader that Percy’s life is going to get much harder.
When Zeus’ lightning bolt is stolen, Percy is blamed. Percy must prove himself innocent, he must go on a quest across the US to find the bolt and return it to Zeus. This was done by fighting others along the way and staying strong.
What I lIked
I liked the action & monsters in the story, as they make it feel fast & exciting. Percy’s friends, Annabeth & Grover show how teamwork can overcome even the toughest of challenges.
Age Recommendation
Overall, I think this book is great for kids 10 and older who love adventure, fantasy and a little humor! Rick Riordan knows how to spark interest and keep the reader engaged using his casual, informal tone.
