What Percy Jackson Taught Me

I really feel that Percy Jackson, by Rick Riordan, is an amazing book. It mixes school life, adventure, and Greek mythology to create one of the best books I have ever read. This idea was probably done so the reader could connect to the story.

This book series is about how a boy named Percy discovers that he is actually the son of a god after his mother is taken to the underworld. It starts when Percy goes on a school trip, and his math teacher turns into a monster. When she attacks, Percy vaporises her with a sword.

Later, he and his mom are chased by a Minotaur. Percy again defeats it, but his mom is sent to the underworld. A quote from this section is: “Then, with an angry roar, the monster closed its fists around my mother’s neck, and she dissolved before my eyes.” This shows Percy’s mother being taken, and his battle reflexes forming.

The rest of the book is about how Percy and his two best friends recover his mom — but not only his mom, the lightning bolt of Zeus as well.

Percy was actually diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, but he still managed to be one of the best campers! This is because sometimes, your weaknesses can be your greatest strengths! ADHD improved Percy’s battle reflexes, and Percy’s mind was actually hardwired to ancient Greek!

Rick Riordan makes the book funny and interesting. I think that is an art.

Percy Jackson taught me about teamwork, courage, and identity. He was a strong and brave character, which allowed him to be fearless on the quests he goes on. Also, without Annabeth and Grover, he wouldn’t have been able to succeed.

Honestly, Percy Jackson made me feel good about myself as a person, and taught me that sometimes, your weaknesses actually help. This would make all other readers feel the same way, which is why I believe that Percy Jackson is a great book.
