Born on February 5, 1985 in Funchal, Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo is a great Portuguese soccer player . He was named after his father’s favorite actor Ronald Reagan. He grew up in a state of poverty.
As a five year old, he used to watch football matches. Later he grew inspired to play the game himself and asked his father to buy him a football. Because his father was poor, they couldn’t afford a new football. Cristiano made a football on his own out of leather and stuffed it with paper inside. He started playing for the Portuguese football club when he was only seven years old. At the age of fourteen, Ronaldo was convinced that he had the ability to play professional football, so he discontinued his education to concentrate fully on football.
During his childhood, he was diagnosed with Tachycardia – a heart-related complication, and he underwent surgery for this. In spite of such a complication, Ronaldo became the greatest football player of all time. He has scored 827 goals in his lifetime, and his nickname is CR-7.
He always inspires me through his game and I started playing football after watching him play. I am playing football at the school level and hope one day to play the game at a bigger level. Cristiano Ronaldo
