I am a very rare breed of parrot found only in the darkest Peruvian forest. I am a purple-coloured parrot with multicoloured wings and a yellow beak. I am a unique bird who can change its skin colour according to surrounding just like a chameleon. However, I don’t live in Peru anymore. I live in a large Mexican zoo at Mexico City.
I was enjoying my life in Peru until some hunters came and caught my family and me. The hunters were fascinated by our breed so they decided to sell us at a hefty price. They sold me to a very rich man who was fond of animals and had lots of pets. We don’t know what happened but one day the policemen came and arrested the man and all of us were sent to the zoo.
Even though zoo life was comfortable, I missed the Peruvian forest because here I couldn’t hear the rustling wind and calm noise of nature. I missed my family and the free sky too. Now, the zoo is my family, all the officials and animals are nice but I don’t like some naughty visitors. They tease me, make noises and throw seeds at my cage. Their camera flash is also disturbing.
The nights in the zoo are quiet as there are no visitors and that is when I feel most lonely and miss my family.
If I get a chance, I would escape from the zoo and fly back to my homeland even though my family is not there anymore. My homeland will give me peace of mind and once again I’ll fly in the free sky.
