Which One IS Me ? I Poem By Jinika
Every morning before I leave,
I pick a mask and put it on.
One for school, one for my friends,
And another when the day goes wrong.
One that says, “I’m perfectly fine,”
One that says, “I don’t really care.”
A smile that joins everyone else,
Even when I don’t want to be there.
At school, I play the perfect one,
At home, I’m always “I’m okay.”
With friends, I become the laughing one,
And hide what I don’t know how to say.
Sometimes I change my masks so much,
I forget which one is really me.
Is it the face I show the world,
Or the one that no one gets to see?
But late at night, when all is quiet,
I finally take them off.
No perfect smile, no fake confidence,
Just me, with all my thoughts.
Maybe someday I’ll stop pretending,
And won’t be scared to show my face.
Maybe being myself won’t feel
Like something I need to replace.
So before you judge the face I wear,
Remember, you don’t know what’s behind.
We’re all carrying things we never say,
And hiding them in our own way.
Because beneath every mask we wear,
There’s a person, just like you—
Still trying to figure themselves out,
And hoping someone sees them too.
