Two Ants With One Mission
Once there were two young ants, Jimmy- a small, energetic fire ant, and Bob – a massive, calm bullet ant. They were normal ants, lived in an anthill and had a life as any other ant. Their everyday task was simple: Collect food. One day they were assigned to go far away to collect food, so they went, not knowing what would happen next. After getting the food, they had to go back to their anthill, but they could not find their way back home. It was a matter of time before they realized that they were in a completely different forest.
A few days passed. Bob and Jimmy kept moving on.
One fine day Bob suddenly said, “Why don’t we help other lost ants like us?”
“That’s a great idea”, replied Jimmy.
Along the journey they found ants like Aarav, Arjun and more. But then, the ultimate challenge arrived: Winter.
Every ant had a different plan to survive the winter. Jimmy realised that the ant group would break away in winter, and many may not survive the harsh winter conditions. Soon Jimmy had an idea: ‘Find an anthill’.
Luckily a few meters away he found a perfectly suitable living anthill. After reaching the anthill everyone was shocked to see a queen ant crawling out, looking nervous.
“Who are you and why do you have half of my army?”, asked the queen ant.
After the ants explained themselves, the queen ant welcomed them into the anthill. And funny enough Jimmy and Bob’s new queen cared more for them than their old queen. All the ants lived together as one big family. Bob and Jimmy’s journey had taken them far away from home, they were completely lost, but they ended it by finding a true home.
Note : This story was written as part of an event organised at Mallika Malancha Housing Complex, Newtown, Kolkata. We commend them for encouraging young voices.
