The Chrono Bridge’s Secret – Part 2

The next morning, when Aryanix and Prithvianix woke up, it was raining heavily in Mistvalley. School was cancelled as if a strange omen had called for it, and they doubted whether they would be able to carry out their secret expedition to cross the bridge that day.Chrono Bridge’s Secret

Aryanix said ‘Will the bridge even appear today?’

Prithvianix added, ‘What if the rain washed it away?’

The puddles reflected the bridge like nature’s secret messengers. Luckily, the rain stopped soon, leaving behind puddles to dry in the sunlight, the earth still slightly damp. They had their breakfasts, and after doing their homework and lazing about a bit, they tied their shoes and slowly pushed the wooden door, deciding to go to the bridge. This time, both of them were carrying their history notebooks for some reason. And like they were, at the exact same point in the bridge like last time, they clumsily slipped, dropping their history books, which were swallowed by the ripples, as though by an ancient force, erasing their homework. T

he silent rustling of the trees was the only marker of their journey across the bridge other than the usual forestry, eerie silence. When they crossed it, they found themselves on an ancient street. Children were playing with wooden toys, and potters were trading cattle for pots. One local person said something in a strange language. Both of them stood confused and stupified.

But soon they realised it meant, ‘How is Mohenjo Daro?’

They thought, ‘So the bridge took us to the Indus Valley this time!’

But an unexpected problem was created, and it was about their clothes! As their clothes were modern, the local people soon spotted them and crowded around them, confused about how they were made. Children gazed at them in wonder. One local even tried to pull Aryanix’s shirt, but he managed to protect it at the last second! They thought, ‘We lost our written history, but we are living in the past instead!’ Prithvianix said something in English, but nobody understood him, making the situation even worse.

When it seemed bad enough, the locals turned out to discover their history books and mistook them for forbidden texts, as they did not understand a word. But the pages 15-18 (Indus Valley)’s pictures looked familiar to them. They somehow made a narrow escape and finally sat to listen to a local storyteller’s performance – which echoed calm. Thankfully, the villagers settled down after the performance. After that, they saw the architecture of the houses – one storey, many rooms, a courtyard in the middle and doors facing away from the main road. They saw the famous bath house, and the ahead-of-its-days drainage system. They also saw rich people trading jewellery for elephants, in royal-looking clothes. After some more exploration, they slowly tiptoed back to the forest on the bridge. Their journey seemed to have made its mark on the forest – the sun glowed a tiny bit brighter than before. Not just that, on the bridge, musical notes seemed to glow, filling the air with music and lights, joyful for all, even making history seem larger.

They admitted they had learnt a lot about not only humanity, but themselves in the past. And they picked up a manuscript on a palm leaf that seemed to glow – ‘This is only the beginning’, it read. But where would that be proven?
