The Chrono Bridge’s Secret – Part 1
Once upon a time, there was a fairytale-like small town called Mistvalley in a quiet corner nestled between two mighty mountains. Beautiful flowers blossomed in slow cycles at the edges of the town. On the other end of the flowers, there was a vast forest.
Legend had it that there was an enchanted bridge in the forest. The entire village was in cultural rhythm with the sun’s cycle – people woke at sunrise, worked hard in the day, came back home at twilight, and went to bed at sunset. All the houses were built in classical style, with five or six rooms, and a garden with a marble fountain in each. Most of them had one storey; a few had two. On full-moon nights, strange things happened: locked doors creaked open, or lights flickered.
In this village, two 9-year-old twins by the name of Aryanix and Prithvianix lived. They loved to learn, were good at maths, reading and writing, were friendly and kind, but were ridiculously clumsy! Both of them were curious about technology and the forest around their home. One spring day, they ventured into the forest without telling their parents. They saw many rare leaves and plants on their way. They discovered a small pond lined with pondweed and moist land.
Over it was a timeworn bridge, just like they had heard in the legends. Feeling both scared, happy and excited at the same time, they slowly put one foot in front of the other. Cold drafts of wind chilled the pathway, along with strange sounds and an eerie silence.
As they were approaching the middle of the bridge, being little clumsy children as they were, Aryanix slipped, and Prithvianix, in trying to help Aryanix, slipped too! But then something enchanting happened. They were magically transported to a beautiful garden. It had a shed – no, on closer look, they saw it wasn’t a shed, but something that looked like a laboratory… They were confused, yet pushed by their curiosity to know what was happening inside. They slowly tiptoed into it and saw a scientist immersed in work! He was designing blueprints for robots, and his assistant was helping him with engineering. Fascinated by what they saw, they stayed to watch. In his typically clumsy way, Aryanix tripped over some wires, and it made a sound that made the scientist and his assistant turn back.
After a few moments of awkward silence, the scientist smiled at them and said, ‘Oh, hello there! I reckon you’d like to know what’s going on here’. Gathering all the courage they had, the two brothers said in unison, ‘Yes, we would love to learn; it all looks super exciting!’ The scientist continued to smile and then, in a kind voice, set out to explain how the robots watered the plants in the garden and provided them with minerals. After explaining all the complex scientific and technical details, the scientist paused, and then, in a calm and slow voice full of wisdom, said: ‘Every bridge carries questions, and answers too – but only kindness unlocks them’.
As they walked further, they saw many people and children through the high-tech smart glass of their doors. They were wearing hyper-technological, neon-light clothes. They saw a road with eco- electric cars. They played with the children and even made friends with them. Just then, they caught a glimpse of a banyan tree, which had been overlooked in the city’s futuristic urban planning. It felt like it was holding centuries of secrets in its mighty presence. The architecture of the city was very different from their town. The twins met their future selves: at first, they could not recognise them, but they realised that they were glimpsing their own destinies. They were both kind, great scientists in the new world.
They grew wiser as they chatted with their future selves. They had fun exploring the futuristic city, and realised that the future is set by their present choices. When they crossed the bridge back, they came to the forest again. They discovered that the forest had changed and become nicer. The birds’ song, the trees’ rustling, the bells’ ringing were all in symbolic harmony. They realised that they had been transported to the future magically. So, the legends turned out to be true. They walked home with an important life lesson: In a hyper-technological age, technology and nature support each other. Aryanix and Prithvianix whispered in unison: ‘The future is bright only if we coexist with nature’. As they drifted to sleep after their bedtime reading that night, they both had the same dream: the bridge creating a cosmic pathway to the stars. They never forgot that dream. Where would the bridge take them next?
