Do something different
Today, I am going to tell you a story. Before the story begins, let me give you a little hint. Have you ever heard a story that begins with, “There was a girl…”?
This story is about a girl who lived near a wonderful water source. One morning, she went there very early and saw something that completely shocked her. She asked her mother about it. What did her mother say? And why did the girl become so frightened?
That is what I set out to discover. When I first heard this story, I thought it was completely fake. I didn’t know how much of it was true and how much was a lie. But I wasn’t afraid. I decided to take on the mission. I kept thinking about it for three days. Finally, on the fourth day, I convinced myself.
“Yes. I am going.”
The next morning, I woke up, drank some water, and exercised for a while. Then I thought again, “Should I really go?”
But I had to find out the truth. So I got ready for my mission. I won’t tell you its name yet. For now, let’s just call it a mission. I tied my hair, took a can and an empty container, and left my house. I closed the door and looked outside. It was almost five in the morning. The sky was dark. I could hear insects making strange sounds, and the road was completely empty. It felt as if everyone had disappeared.
I started walking. When I reached the road, a cold, lonely wind was blowing around me. For a moment, it felt as if the whole world had vanished. But I had a mission to complete. So I kept walking. The tube light was still on, so I wasn’t too scared. Soon, I reached the path. There was a house beside me. In the darkness, it almost looked like a haunted house. It seemed as if nobody lived there. I kept walking.
Finally, I reached the place where I was supposed to get the water. And then I saw something. Something green. And something very long. My eyesight is a little weak, so I couldn’t see it clearly. The light was also shining directly into my eyes. I got scared. There was nobody around to help me. Still, I didn’t run away. I looked carefully. It was very long, and from a distance, it looked as if something was in the water. I slowly went closer and reached the steps.
And then I discovered the truth. Someone had cut a water bottle and connected a pipe to it. The pipe seemed to carry water towards someone’s house. I stared at it.
“Oh… it’s just a pipe!”
I finally felt relieved. While I was filling my container, the wind around me was blowing so strongly that it almost felt as if it wanted to carry me away. There was also an open field nearby. For a moment, I thought, “Why don’t I run here?”
But then I thought, “What if someone catches me?”
So I quickly filled my container and started going home. While I was returning, I suddenly saw a very long shadow. I froze. Then I realized—it was just the shadow of some grass. And there was something else. When I had looked at the field from far away, I thought I had seen someone standing there. But when I looked carefully, there was no person. It was just a plant.
I continued walking home. The whole town seemed to be covered in silence. I stopped once and looked around carefully. Nobody was there. The cold morning wind made me even more nervous. Finally, I reached home.
And that’s when I understood something. That girl who went to get water at five in the morning might have seen a shadow. Or perhaps she saw something else. Maybe the darkness, the cold wind, and the empty surroundings made everything seem frightening.
But there was still one thing I couldn’t explain. That cut bottle and the pipe. Who had put them there? And where was the water actually going? Because the pipe seemed to lead into a drain.
Maybe there is an explanation. Maybe there isn’t. But one mystery still remains unsolved: Who put that cut bottle and pipe there?
FAQs Do Something Different Story by Kajal
Q1: What is the main plot of the story?
A: Inspired by a mysterious tale about a frightened girl at a water source, the narrator sets out on a early 5:00 AM mission to discover the truth for herself. Along the way, she confronts her fear of the dark, strange shadows, and eerily quiet surroundings, ultimately discovering that a scary “monster” in the water was just a cut bottle connected to a pipe.
Q2: What is the primary theme of the story?
A: Fear versus reality. The story explores how darkness, solitude, and active imaginations transform harmless everyday objects—like plants, grass shadows, and plastic pipes—into terrifying mysteries.
The Mystery & Plot
Q3: What was the long, green object in the water?
A: It was a modified water delivery system made from a cut plastic bottle connected to a long green pipe.
Q4: Is the mystery fully resolved at the end?
A: Only partially. While the narrator learns the scary object wasn’t a monster, a new mystery emerges: Who placed the bottle and pipe there, and why does it lead into a drain?
Q5: What are the main theories behind the cut bottle and pipe?
- Water Diversion / Theft: A neighbor secretly siphoning water to their home or garden.
- Drainage Control: A makeshift attempt to clear excess water off the steps to prevent slipping.
- Hidden System: A pipe feeding into a secondary hidden collection tank further down the drain.
Character & Atmosphere
Q6: Why did the narrator decide to go at 5:00 AM despite being scared?
A: She spent three days obsessing over whether the original story was true or a lie. Driven by intense curiosity and a desire to seek the truth, she built up the courage to go on the fourth day.
Q7: How does the environment contribute to the story’s suspense?
A: The empty roads, chilly morning wind, insect noises, buzzing tubelights, and abandoned-looking houses create a spooky, gothic atmosphere that puts the narrator on high alert.
Q8: Who was the girl mentioned at the very beginning?
A: She is a figure from a local legend or rumor who previously visited the water source early in the morning and returned terrified. The narrator’s mission was to see if that girl’s fear was justified.
