Book Review on Macbeth
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare and is a wonderful manifestation of the iniquitous temptations of humankind and their consequences, which dawn upon the human race as a result of its own faults.
I received this book from my parents as a present on my 13th birthday.
Summary and Themes
The story revolves around the life and ambitions of a brave Scottish general in the king’s army, Macbeth, and how his high ambitions give way to his ungodly acts. It has been termed the “Tragedy of Ambition” and is a great work of art, whose teachings can seldom—if ever—be crystallised in a phrase.
Macbeth is the tragic hero of the play and is portrayed as a brave and peerless kinsman. He is a typical heroic warrior, but his inexplicable personality is eventually annulled by his inordinate ambition and equally excessive imagination.
Personal Thoughts
In my view, Macbeth is a pragmatic tragedy that depicts the undulating and weak willpower of the human mind, which might entice us to act against our conscience and cause our downfall.
The play is written in Shakespearean language and style, which is easier to understand than expected and has its own unique way of etching a deep mark on our hearts through its heartening soliloquies and lifelike effects.
“They have tied me to a stake; I cannot fly,
But, bear-like, I must fight the course.”
According to me, this is one of the best lines from Macbeth, where he is portrayed as a brave warrior, fighting even though he knows he is going to die.
Recommendation
I would like to recommend this book to everyone aged 12 or above as a must-read.
Rating
On a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest rating possible, this book deserves a 5-star rating.
