Introduction
How does nature give and take, and humans take and take?
“The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein is an amazing book. It is a great book that will stay in the readers’ hearts forever. It is a book on gratefulness and how we shouldn’t keep taking from nature around us
Themes & Message
This book is about a growing boy and his relationship with the tree. It’s mostly a one-sided relationship. The boy gets more ambitious as he grows up. When he was little, all he could think of was playing; but as he grew older, his attention shifted to earning money, then building a house, and then travelling. However, the tree remained stable; it just wanted to care for the boy.
This shows that over time, humans get selfish. But nature is always stable and adapts to everything. One thing that I loved about this book is how Shel Silverstein uses minimal words, but can convey the message of the story and a handful of emotions. It’s a feat only professional writers can perform.
What I Liked:
Furthermore, I also liked how the author implicitly showed how important the stump was. The tree was helpless, but it still did all it could to help the man by providing him with a place to sit.
Also, Silverstein uses the repeated phrase “and the tree was happy.” This shows that despite everything, the tree wanted to help the boy. This shows how caring the tree is, which I’m sure we can all connect to, no matter how young or old we are.
Personal Reflection:
I really feel that this book is suitable for all ages. It may be short, but it shows such deep feelings that most people can connect to the book. Even adults would feel a relationship with it.
Conclusion & Recommendation
Therefore, I conclude by saying that this is one of the deepest books I’ve read.
