What Is Consciousness ?

In simple terms, we can call it awareness or deep understanding. In my own vocabulary, I like to refer to it as sha’ ur—a blend of intellect, awareness, and sophistication.

But what does shoor really mean in our daily lives?

From the moment we are born until our very last breath, desire is a constant human companion. It fluctuates constantly—sometimes overwhelming, sometimes barely there. Yet, underneath all these desires is consciousness, silently guiding us from birth. Without it, we are completely helpless. This vital force is what keeps our brain, heart, and lungs functioning. It never pauses. If it stops, everything stops. This realization makes me believe that consciousness is simply another name for the soul.

If the soul leaves the body, what truly remains? The physical organs? The senses? Nothing. We often limit our understanding of consciousness, assuming it only means staying alive, thinking, and speaking. But human potential is limitless. How then could the creator of thought and human life give us a limited consciousness?

Speaking, thinking, learning, understanding, seeing, and living—if this isn’t consciousness, what is?Therefore, it stands proven: the soul is consciousness, and consciousness is the soul.

Thank you,
