The Shackles of War I Poem By Adwaith, 15, Chennai

The Shackles of War

The shackles of war held me in place

The carnage and bloodshed I was made to face

Guns were fired, bodies fell

The battlefield was filled with the corpses smell

Screams of terror rung in my ears

Roars of violence resonating my fears

Men everywhere fighting for a cause they didnt know about

Running around and scaling the mounts

Waging wars that never seemed to end

Trying to heal wounds that never seemed to mend

They fought; friends disguised as foes

All to perish ultimately in a blazing inferno

They had families, waiting at home

Unaware of their impending doom

Death cackled, holding his bloody sickle

The men aged wrinkle upon wrinkle

War can break a broken man

Reopening old scars; again, and again

War doesnt fix; it only destroys

The birds of peace, caged, never again to soar

Tears fell from eyes that had seen much blood

Trudging in the mud, boots lined with studs

They cried, fighting a war unknown

Thinking they were reaping what they had sown

The shackles of war held me in place

The carnage and bloodshed I was made to face

Guns were fired, bodies fell

The battlefield was filled with the corpses smell
