The Gopi Diaries –  By Sudha Murty I Book Review

Book : The Gopi Diaries

Author : Sudha Murty

Today I was going through an interesting book by Sudha Murty. The book’s name was “The Gopi Diaries”. It was about how a dog came into a strangers house and how they treated him.

Characters

The characters were a dog named Gopi, his mother, father, chachas, mama’s, kakas, kakus, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gopi’s grandfather was his Ajja. He was very scared of dogs, as he was once bitten by a dog 🐶 and he was given fourteen injections in the stomach because of that. His grandmother was a plumpy lady who was his Ajji. A thin woman who was Gopi’s grandmother’s sister who was his Tachi Ajji.

Favourite Gopi The Dog

My favourite character was Gopi, the dog. As he was of golden colour which was my favourite, he had a jet black nose and had Kohl lined eyes. He was a very bright and loyal dog.  All the characters felt very real except the toys. Some of the toys would make sounds and some of them were of fake dogs and cats. Gopi’s Ajji and Tachi Ajji invited him in their house 🏡 with a special aarti.

The Positives

The story kept me guessing what will be the next and I kept on turning pages with curiosity. The book made me laugh 😂 aloud as there were many funny parts. They were many types of scenes in the story. When there was a moment in which a man had to choose a dog for his becoming his pet, between four to five dogs. They were Moti, Duke, Gopi, Marsh and Tommy. In between these dogs the man chose Gopi for his pet dog.

What I did not like

There was also a sad scene when Gopi’s and his cousins, mother went for a walk. They found them in a big room from which they were not able to come out.I also felt sad in some situations. One of them is that, one day Gopi’s Ajji, Tachi Ajji and Appa went out for breakfast with Gopi. The aroma of oil, ghee and rice and so many others were coming to the nose of Gopi. He wanted to eat the food but Ajji did not allow him to do so as the doctor will decide what Gopi should eat. This is the reason I felt bad for Gopi.

Another incident was that,Gopi was forcely taken to the veterinary hospital for giving him an injection twice a year. So,it was very painful for him .

Rating

I will read this book 4.5/5 . And, I will recommend children to read this book, as it has mystery and colorful pictures in it. It will also improve your vocabulary.
