The Dolphins That Saved The Earth

Splash, The Dolphin

Splash, a dolphin, felt really sad one day. It was his mother’s birthday, but he was not there. His mother died recently. Due to a leakage in the fuel tank, the ship transporting oil from Saudi Arabia to India spilled some oil into the ocean, which his mother consumed. His father, who was in the Dolphin National Army, was away most of the time. Presently, he was busy fighting the fierce Shark Army, which was attacking Dolphin territory. Ever since his mother passed away, Splash has had to take on the responsibility of his baby brother and sister.

Bubbles and Splash

But they were getting unruly, and it was difficult for Splash to manage them. He felt very lonely most of the time. At night, after dinner, he often cried and asked God why he had to take away their mother. Since the day their mother died, Splash has lost interest in everything. He did not even play with his friends. Earlier, he was the most talkative boy in class, but now he has become so quiet that all his friends and teachers are worried about him. He only used to talk to his best friend, Bubbles. Bubbles used to bring extra tiffin for Splash. Bubbles also told him about some other children who had also lost their parents because of the plastic and other waste thrown into the sea by men.

Posidon The God Of The Sea

One day Bubbles told him, “I learned from my father that Poseidon is the god of the sea. I think we must go to him. Only he can save the sea and all of us who live in it.” “But where would we find Poseidon?” asked Splash with a sad face. “What is the library for?” replied Bubbles. Bubbles’s reply brought a faint smile to his lips. The next day, the two friends spent their free time in the school library to find out as much as they could about Poseidon. But unfortunately, none of the books could tell them where to find Poseidon.

Mrs. Bookhead, The Head Librarian

Bubbles suggested, “Why don’t we ask Mrs. Bookhead? She knows almost everything under the sun.” That’s a good idea,” Splash shouted out with glee. Mrs. Bookhead was the head librarian of their school, but she was very strict, and all the children were scared of her. The two friends went to her hesitantly. Listening to Splash’s sad story, Mrs. Bookhead spoke kindly to them. She said that there was only one person who knew where to find Poseidon, and he was Mr. Eight Hands, the oldest living octopus in the sea. But where do we find him?” “He lives under a big red coral to the north of the sea.” As they said thank you and were going to leave, she warned them, “Beware of Slytherin, the sea serpent. He is 11 feet long.” Bubbles said that she wanted to go with Splash, but he refused. They argued with each other. Splash said that he wanted to take care of his siblings. They loved and trusted her. Bubbles suggested that they could leave the kids with Bubbles’s parents. Splash agreed to this idea.

Slytherin, The Sea Serpent

They kept the kids with Bubbles’s parents and set off for the journey. Just when they reached the great rock, the disaster happened. Splash felt a grip on his tail, and Bubbles was also gripped tightly. And then they saw a large mouth full of enormous teeth peering into their faces. And they realised it was Slytherin. He had gripped them for his dinner. They fought hard and bit on his tail with all their might. The monster released its grip for a moment, but just as they thought they were free, the monster coiled around them even more tightly. Although they were afraid, they tried hard not to show it. Seeing their courage, Slytherin let them go. He said, “You two are so brave. I am impressed with your children. Here, take my scale. If you face any danger in your journey, just rub my scale; I will come to your aid.” Thanking Slytherin, they continued their journey to the north.

Shark’s

Two days and nights passed. They were both hungry and tired. They rested on a rock and were feeding on some algae when they found themselves surrounded by a shiver of sharks. They realised they were no match for them. The sharks were rapidly approaching them, baring their cruel white teeth. Bubbles suddenly remembered Slytherin’s words. She took out the scale and rubbed it fast. A loud noise rang out, followed by huge waves. In the blink of an eye, Slytherin’s long tail bound each of the sharks. Splash and Bubbles did not waste a moment and swam as fast as they could. They just had a look at the map that Ms. Bookhead had given them. They were overjoyed to see that they were only a few metres away from the coral. Finally, they reached the big red coral. They were a little afraid to meet Mr. 8 Hands, as he was an octopus. But as he was old, he didn’t look very scary. Bubbles politely asked him, “Where can we find Poseidon?” Mr. Eight Hands was impressed with their politeness. So she told them where Poseidon lived.

Poseidon’s Tridant

After a long journey, they finally reached Poseidon’s house. Poseidon was surprised to see the two of them. Generally, children did not come to him. His heart melted when he heard Splash’s sad story. He was already angry with mankind for polluting the sea and killing marine creatures. He stood up and, shaking his trident, vowed to destroy mankind with earthquakes and tsunamis. “I will destroy everything on land. Human beings will have to pay a price for their pride.” Saying this, Poseidon waved his trident three times. There were loud, rumbling sounds. Cracks developed on the Earth’s surface around the globe. Buildings and trees started falling, and gigantic waves started rushing towards the shore.

But this was not what Splash wanted. He remembered how his mother loved humans. She often guided ships or boats that lost their way. They also loved his mother. Moreover, destroying land will not only kill humans but also the other animals that live on land. Gathering courage, Splash said, “Sir, I did not want revenge; I just wanted to save ourselves.” Bubbles said softly, “Sir, can I say something?” Poseidon did not reply but looked at her. “Sir, we can teach them a lesson by collecting and throwing all the plastic and garbage back to them. And we can ask all our fishy friends to hide so deep down in the sea that men cannot catch them.” Although Poseidon was still trembling with anger, looking at the children’s faces melted his heart.

Every day for one month, all the marine creatures collected plastic and garbage from the sea, and those who could swim to the surface threw them on the beaches. In one month, all the beaches of the world turned into dump yards, and the fish markets of the world went empty. It created a stir in the world. The men realised their mistake. People around the world started campaigning against the pollution of the sea. They promised they would be careful in the future. The two little dolphins saved them from the wrath of Poseidon, but they were unaware of it.
