The Best Birthday
Planning the Surprise
It was a sunny afternoon. Jack, George, Philip and Annie were lazing in the garden. They were talking about Peggy’s upcoming birthday. Peggy was the children’s friend and they were deciding to throw a surprise birthday party.
“She should not suspect a thing,” said Jack.
“Yes. It must be a complete surprise,” said Annie.
“Hey, pal,” said a voice from behind the gate. It was Peggy.
The children immediately stopped talking about the upcoming birthday. They were quite determined not to let Peggy know anything about the surprise celebration.
Peggy and the children chattered for a while. They then had their tea. Everyone exclaimed at the spread. The children’s mother had cooked hot scones with thick cream.
The Birthday Morning

The next day dawned bright and clear. The children leapt out of bed. It was Peggy’s birthday. Peggy was certainly going to get a surprise today.
“Let’s put up all the decorations,” they shouted.
They ran into the garden. They started putting the decorations. They had baked a wonderful chocolate cake adorned with pretty roses.
The Surprise Party
It was finally time for the party. There were candles and roses, chocolates and candies and many other things that Peggy liked.
They had called Peggy over and she was on her way and the children hid in the bushes.
When Peggy came through the gate, they shouted “Surprise! Happy Birthday!”
It turned out to be a very good party.
