Savitribai Phule : My favourite teacher
She was married when she was nine years old,
And her childish life was put on a hold,
Her husband taught her to read,
Through which she learnt about the discrimination of creed.
To pass to women,
The power called ‘EDUCATION’
She began her teaching, a rightful initiation.
A school for girls was her first mission,
Though she had no support for her vision.
She in tandem with her husband were treated as outcasts,
Balls of feces were thrown at her whenever she walked past,
Tomatoes and dung were loaded in hands like bullets in a gun,
Yet her willpower was what made the assaulters stunned.
They told her to break off and change her way,
Also, their curses and booing never went away.
A humanitarian family offered them a shelter,
Yet people around them continued to pester,
Many considered her as a bane,
Some pitied and thought her insane.
An outbreak began when ladies took her advice,
And sent their daughters school to her surprise,
That’s when appeared…some rough goons,
To stop the girls from receiving their boons.
Everyday her saree got a chuck of dung out,
But never once did she ever pout.
Folks said she always carried two sarees,
I wonder how she never had worries.
Soon, plenty of girls began to join,
Luck flipped front and back like a coin.
In similar vein, she opposed the widowing act,
She fought in words by keeping herself erect.
She marched forward paying no heed,
Sacrificing herself in countless deeds.
Her benevolence continued like a line with no end,
A teacher like her is truly a legend.
She made a dent in the olden standards of education,
Because of her we all have a strong foundation.
Every educated woman ought to thank her,
For sowing a seed and giving us a bright future.
She is unprecedented among teachers,
My favorite teacher Savitribai Phule always inspires.
