Rian & The Time Loop
Once upon a time, there was a nine-year-old boy called Rian living in IIT Madras. He was a prodigy in mathematics, poor at spelling, researched various topics (and was great at it), and was thrilled with two things: exams and programming computers to do work. His parents were both successful professors on campus with many friends and enough money to live a comfortable life.
One Sunday, when he was casually surfing the Internet, he stumbled upon an old, unknown website, labelled ‘Python Time Simulator’. He opened it at once. There was not much written: just Python code in a compiler, with lines like ‘control time’, ‘Activating loop:’, and some arithmetic and logic in between. Without understanding it completely himself, he copy-pasted the mysterious code into his compiler, and after a few minutes of tweaking the code and adding a few lines of his own, with a mix of suspense, joy, fear and excitement, he pressed ‘Run’.
The screen flickered like a portal of secrets; the compiler glowed. Immediately, his mother called: ‘Rian, clean your room’. He put the toys away and went to have lunch. After that, he did his online advanced math class. It was raining outside. The next day, everything was the same, except his actions. Same food in all three meals, same words and questions from his Adv.Math teacher, same rain, same ‘Rian, clean your room’, like glass beads falling. Rian was observant enough to find it peculiar. Confused, he tested it by kicking a tomato, playing football with an orange, losing three of his chess pieces, throwing his spoon into the bin, throwing two clothes into the toilet, doing toilet on his piano, scribbling in his history copy, and whatnot a ruckus! But the next day, everything was back in order.
And it was the same every day. The first few Saturdays in the time loop, he felt confused and wondered what might be happening. He felt a mix of loneliness, fear, and confusion. He wrote that it was ‘boryng’ – he was still a poor speller, even in the time loop! But he got to know secrets, like how many syllables his mother said every day, and how many raindrops fell on the windowsill every hour. After what seemed like a hundred Saturdays in the time loop, he noticed a line while toying around with his code, a riddle that took so long to be found:{ while day [==] Saturday, repeat()}.
He wondered: ‘Is it this that caused all the time loop chaos? He took a moment to decide whether he should leave the time loop now. After examining the code again, he found that he unknowingly created an infinite loop in his code, which trapped reality itself in repetition. Whether the time loop existed was a paradox. He then deleted the line. The next day was different again. His mother called: Rian, will you ever clean your room? He replied: ‘Only if the code allows it!’ He thought, ‘At least the code saved me from having to clean my room!’ He wouldn’t go scrolling through mysterious websites again! He fixed his world, but somewhere else another child might be still trapped in the same Saturday.
Moral – Curiosity builds worlds, but wisdom protects them.
FAQs Rian & The Time Loop I Story By Ayanish
1. Who is Rian and where does he live?
Rian is a nine-year-old boy living in IIT Madras. He is a math prodigy who loves exams and programming computers, though he struggles with spelling.
2. How did Rian get trapped in the time loop?
While surfing the Internet on a Sunday, he stumbled upon an unknown website called ‘Python Time Simulator’. He copy-pasted a mysterious piece of code, tweaked it, added a few lines of his own, and pressed ‘Run’, which inadvertently trapped reality in an infinite loop.
3. How did Rian realize he was stuck in a time loop?
He noticed that the next day repeated itself identically—same meals, same words from his Advanced Math teacher, and the same request from his mother to clean his room. To test it, he caused a major ruckus (such as kicking a tomato, playing football with an orange, throwing clothes into the toilet, and scribbling in his history copy), but everything reset completely the next morning.
4. How long was Rian stuck in the time loop?
After what felt like a hundred Saturdays of experiencing the same loop, he finally discovered the culprit line of code while toying around: { while day [==] Saturday, repeat()}.
5. How did he escape the loop?
Rian realized he had unknowingly created an infinite loop that trapped reality. He deleted the line of code, which successfully restored normal time the next day.
6. What is the moral of the story?
