If A Wild Animal Could Speak
Kaziranga National Park
“Oh no, no! Don’t hunt me!” No, they won’t, since I am at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam and I am protected. But my poor friends in Java, Indonesia and Nepal are in danger. My species is critically endangered because there is immense demand for my horns across continents, like Asia.
Rhinos
My everyday life is uninteresting. I just eat, sleep and glare at people. But I need to be safe. Due to continuous hunting, only 27,000 of my species is left and rhinos will soon be extinct. Every year at least 450 of my friends are killed. During the year 2008, 11,000 of my fellow mates were killed.
I came pretty close to dying too. One of my horns broke and was taken to be used for traditional medicine. It is also a symbol for people to show wealth and status in the society. The area where it got cut still hurts and my head still throbs thinking about it constantly.
I dream that in the future, I will be able to lead a free life in the forest with happiness and no sense of fear. The poachers and hunters shouldn’t be allowed to hunt rhinos and we should be able to live amongst nature, just as we are.
