Dialogue between the Light and Dark
Darkness: Hello Light! How are you doing?
Light: Hey Darkness! I am dazzling! What about you?
Darkness: Thanks for asking, I am doing good! So what are you doing nowadays?
Light: Well! I am so much in the limelight these days as Diwali is soon approaching. Everyone wants to light their houses with lamps and diyas to symbolise the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is the festival of lights. I feel sorry for you, darkness as you are of no importance and nobody wants you. You are useless.
Darkness: You are mistaken, Light. We both are of equal importance.
Light: How? Can you explain?
Darkness: Pleasant lighting needs a strong contrast with darkness for the beautiful lights to stand out.
Light: See you only said that I am beautiful! I am colourful! You are black. Look at me how attractive I am and you are so unattractive.
Darkness: Black is beautiful and important. The colour black absorbs all light. Black colour winter wear provides warmth. Black is the colour which signifies power, justice and strength.
Light: Darkness you are insignificant in Diwali.
Darkness: It is not true because I beautify fireworks in the sky. Diwali devoid of fireworks is considered incomplete. The light of the fireworks creates magic only in the black and dark sky. The dazzling and sparkling stars can be seen in the dark sky. Without darkness it would not have been possible to see the beauty of stars.
Light: I play a vital role for the survival of all living beings on earth. I am the source of energy. I help to see the beautiful world. I help plants to make food and grow. I am a source of vitamin D. I ensure safety. I am everywhere.
Darkness: I too play an important role to humans, animals, and plants. I help in maintaining the circadian rhythm which helps in knowing day and night. For sleeping better darkness is essential. Bats and the majority other insects are active at dawn and dusks. Many animals need darkness to protect them when finding food.
Light: But still, I believe you are of no importance.
Darkness: You are of more importance because of me. Had there been no existence of myself, people would not have been able to enjoy your presence.
Light: I bring so much positivity, brightness, and joy in the life of everyone. People fear darkness. Children fear you. You are associated with suffering and bad times.
Darkness: Bad times are good times which make a person stronger.
Light: I am present everywhere. You are nowhere. Who are you? Nobody cares. You are just the opposite of me.
Darkness: I am not the opposite of light; I am just the absence of light.
Light: Let us work hand in hand because my importance is felt because of your absence. Thank you, my friend, for illuminating me.
