Artificial Intelligence (AI) :  A Boon or Curse?

AI is also referred to as Artificial Intelligence. It means using computers to do things that would have required human intelligence.AI is a technology which really makes a difference in our lives by making the tasks easier to perform. It is present everywhere. It is present in our smartphones, cars, laptops, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.

So, for instance if I take the example of the AI present in the high-end technology filled washing machines, these washing machines first identify the type of fabric, i.e. cotton, silk, wool, etc. and then accordingly perform the cycles required for the particular cloth of that fabric. AI present in smartwatches is able to monitor our sleep data, blood pressure, and even heart rate; it can even warn the user if they have extremely low or high heart rate. In the coming future, AI robots will be able to take care of the elderly people.

Just like everything has its own advantages and disadvantages, AI also has its own disadvantages. When we fill our personal data to login into a particular AI website, it can actually lead to data and privacy breach of the user. We are already aware of the fact that AI robots are data driven. If incorrect data is fed into the AI robot with a malicious intent, it could lead to massive destruction.

If AI is not implemented responsibly, it will not benefit society. There is a risk of commercial and government misuse, which can have a negative impact on human rights.

Living in a virtual world may have an unexpected impact on the human mind and could lead to new problems and situations that will need to be dealt with. But we know that we can’t stop progress. We must think hard and smart to keep up with this rapid technological development.

Hence, we should use AI for our ease of life but, we should also use it in such a way that we can save ourselves from the disadvantages of AI or mishap which can make it very dangerous to use it. After all, human intelligence is more developed and superior to Artificial Intelligence.
