Are we alone in the universe?
A famous quote by Arthur C. Clarke says, “Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”
It’s so true. Both situations can be petrifying in their own way. We are born alone, live alone, and die alone. On the other hand, even when we are surrounded by people, feelings like misunderstanding and jealousy always creep in, which is, once again, terrifying.

Honestly, life is like a journey where, through love and friendship, we create an illusion for ourselves that we are not alone. Some people stand by us longer, while others are left behind as we move forward. Ultimately, we all know that our only best friend is ourselves. Life is a ride full of adventures and experiences, and we must learn to enjoy our own company the most. When we do, the journey of life becomes more manageable.
This universe is full of mysteries—mysteries that remain unsolved, with countless questions that have no answers. We tread the path of life, each of us searching for answers in our own individual ways.
Throughout our lifetime, we are surrounded by people who come and go. Sometimes, those we consider close friends turn out to be our hardest lessons. We get hurt. We understand and move ahead—but without them. Some people might stay with us for decades, but the harsh reality is that, sooner or later, everyone will go their own way. That is the unchangeable principle of the universe.
At some point in our journey, everyone will be left behind, and we will find ourselves alone again. Once we understand this, there is nothing to despair. We can learn to stay calm in all circumstances.

Alexander Potter beautifully expressed this universal experience in these golden lines:
“Missing someone has to be one of the worst human emotions. All the other feelings like anger, fear, and horror get so much more airplay, as if their intensity gives them more value. But whereas those emotions come in violent bursts and are gone again, the gnawing ache of loss must be endured. It’s like background noise. It’s always there and never goes away. You just have to try to block it out, distract yourself, and hope that the hole they left behind will grow a little smaller tomorrow.”

We go through innumerable experiences from the very second we enter this universe—this world. Every day, we encounter something new. We never stop experiencing life until our last breath. Every understanding of our own life is ours alone. Each person has unique experiences that shape who they are. No two people in this world can have the exact same life experiences. Even when two individuals go through the same event, each carries a different perception or understanding. In other words, my experiences are unique to me.
Life experiences cannot be learned solely by seeing or reading about things. Real-life experiences are not just the ones you share with your friends, partner, or other people you meet. The experiences that truly define you are those you went through alone—when no one was there, and you had to fight, win, and walk through them all by yourself.
We should never forget that we are alone in our journey. The people who come into our lives contribute to our experiences, leaving us with valuable lessons that make us stronger as we move forward. These experiences shape us as individuals and determine how others will remember us, even if only for a moment. So, walk your path while cherishing the people and lessons along the way, but always remember—ultimately, you are alone in your life’s journey.
