AI in the Classroom: Friend or Foe
Introduction
A few days ago, our class was divided into groups to work on a project. It was a science project to construct a hydroelectric plant and its demonstration. The project was very fun to make, our group made it by using our creativity. While the other group used various AI tools, which gave them wrong information on a few topics, which tampered with their project. This was a very important lesson for them to learn that shortcuts do not work.
History of Artificial Intelligence
Now, let’s dive into the history of artificial intelligence. It all started with Alan Turing in the year of 1950 when he created a new kind of technology which he called ‘The Imitation Game.’ Later on, in the year of 1956, John McCarthy tried to develop what he had called ‘Artificial Intelligence’. Logic Theorist (1955) and General Problem Solver (1957) were among the first AI programs. The rise of machine learning helped people a lot; it helped them store lots of information and data, and they were able to create advanced networks.
AI in 2025

Nowadays, we use various AI tools like Chatgpt, Grammarly and other AI study apps for our own convenience. AI helps us to do our school homework and lessen the burden of our daily, monotonous activities. But, what do you think, is AI helping the students or hindering their creative abilities?
AI as a Friend

AI can be used as our friend in multiple ways, some of which are mentioned below:
- We can easily do our homework with the help of AI tools and focus on core studies.
- It helps students to learn and understand the topics very easily.
- It makes quizzes to check our progress on a certain topic.
- It also gives us instant feedback on our responses/queries.
AI as an Enemy

But if AI has so many advantages, why do people warn us that AI is very harmful?
Many famous personalities, such as Professor Geoffrey Hinton, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his contributions to Physics, had opined that AI would lead to human extinction within three decades. There are various reasons for this as
-
Weakens thinking skills.
-
People/students lose creativity.
-
They become less efficient in resolving real-time problems.
Due to these concerns, teachers have become worried as students tend to copy their homework from various AI bots. The students have now become over dependent on AI. The primary issue of AI is that it may not always be accurate, which imparts incorrect or irrelevant information.
Conclusion
Keep a balance between AI and personal/cognitive development
In conclusion, I would like to say that AI is neither good nor bad; it depends on person-to-person on how they use it. Students must remember to keep a balance between AI and personal/cognitive development.
