Why does rain inspire writers? I Essay By Divij, 16, Singapore

Rain has always served as an inspiration to writers across the globe. The pitter patter of rain holds a certain beauty that can be molded into a creative pool. It is from this pool that writers are able to draw from to create captivating stories.

This can largely be associated with the discontinuation of daily life with the interference of rain. Rain provides a break from all the struggles of life and gives writers a chance to refresh themselves.

Different writers interpret rain in different ways. Some may choose to explore it religiously, while others may simply express philosophical ideas. Either way, the representation is always breath taking.

One common idea that is heavily relied on is the belief of a new beginning. Several writers are inspired by the ‘hope’ that rain brings with it. They believe that rain stands as a symbol of hope as it is with the monsoon season that flowers bloom and crops get ready for harvest.

On the contrary, chaos and destruction is another extreme on the scale that has been tackled by writers on several occasions. It has no longer been kept as ‘rain’ but it is now instead a torrential downpour. This ‘flood’ is usually a cause of a wave of emotions that a writer is going through, usually a loss of a loved one and helps grieve them.

Therefore, rain is a great way to stimulate a writer’s creativity. While in some instances it may be laying the building blocks, in others it is a way a writer is able to let out certain emotions or feelings.
