The Last Dragon

It was another boring day as Jack returned home from school feeling tired. His cousins were coming that day, and he was so excited for their arrival that he decided that they should go on a dragon hunt. Jack lived in a world in which dragons once ruled the planet, but humans slayed them and took over the world. Jack was probably the only one on his planet who was fond of dragons and believed they still existed.

That evening, when his cousins finally came, he announced that they were going dragon hunting and all three of his cousins—Bianca, Eldina and Robert, groaned. “This is like the fourteenth time you’ve taken us,” exclaimed Eldina. “And it is totally the worst thing ever!” added Robert. “We never even find any dragons or clues.” But soon enough, Jack persuaded them to tag along with him, using some ice cream and cake.

This time, they headed towards the mountains. They were not supposed to come here as it was a restricted area, but they decided finding a dragon or at least an egg of a dragon would be worth it anyway. They hiked for quite a while before they found some sort of huge cave. They had a debate on whether to explore it or not, and Jack won alone, so they went inside.

They walked cautiously through the vast cavern full of bats until they reached a fork in which two different tunnels lead to different places. They decided to split up so Jack and Robert went into one tunnel, while Bianca and Eldina went through the other. After a long walk, Jack and Robert reached an open clearing and found a giant egg – nearly as big as Jack himself! Both of the kids were surprised at their find and called Bianca and Eldina. The girls rushed to the cavern, hearing the call and gasped when they saw the enormous egg. “It has to be a dragon egg!” exclaimed Robert. The others took this in and decided to roll the egg all the way down. They still couldn’t believe Jack was actually right for once and a dragon probably still existed! After successfully bringing the egg down without breaking it, they narrated the entire story of the incident to the town. After waiting for a few days for the dragon to hatch, the egg finally cracked open. A tiny creature about the size of Jack’s shoulder emerged from it. He fed the dragon for the next few months and named him Jessie. He even tried sitting on Jessie’s back sometimes. In return, the dragon would cook food with his fire breath often. A few years later, Jack released Jessie into the wild and he was sure he would never forget the last dragon.
