My Visit To “Queen Of Doors”: Lepchakha
During the last summer holidays, I went trekking for the first time to Lepchakha with my parents and my maternal uncle. Lepchakha is a hilltop village located very close to the Bhutan border in Alipurduar, West Bengal. We started our journey from the nearest town, Alipurduar, and went through the Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest.

We reached Santalabari at 10 o’clock in the morning. From there, we started trekking. My mother warned me not to go near the cliff and there were sharp turns also. There were broken & very uneven roads.

The mountain forest was dense. The road had ups and downs. I was trekking with a stick which was given by the tourist guide uncle. We reached Buxa Fort at 11:30 a.m. Buxa fort was a prison and detention camp for Indian freedom fighters. It was made by British Government. The fort was made by huge rocks. There was a football ground in front of the fort. The Freedom fighters made this playground. I respect them who made this playground . We played football with local village boys and saw them playing for sometime.

We again started trekking for our highest & last destination: Lepchakha. A street dog made friendship with me and followed us from a tea shop. The dog was cute and brown in colour. I gave him biscuits. I called him Sheru. We could hear the Himalayan birds chirping & saw some beautiful butterflies. I experienced the cloudy weather there. There was a village where people live. Finally, we reached Lepchakha at 1:00 p.m. at afternoon. Lepchakha is known also as “Queen of Dooars” and “A Little Bhutan In India” as it is very close to Bhutan border.

We enjoyed the view of the Jayanti river from the top. Lepchakha is a very beautiful village. We enjoyed the great view, monastery for next two hours. We completed our lunch in a village’s local restaurant. Then we started walking down towards Santalabari. We collected many big and small sized rocks & also some leaves for my knowledge. After a tea shop Sheru was not following us. We went back to Alipurduar at night.
I was very happy to complete the trekking. I would like to come here again.
