Music And its Effect On Mood
Have you ever noticed that listening to a happy and upbeat song can instantly lift your spirits when you’re feeling sad or tired? Or, when you’re feeling angry or frustrated, can listening to a calming and soothing melody help you feel more relaxed? That’s because music has a magical way of connecting with our emotions.
Scientists and researchers have studied the connection between music and mood, and they say that different types of music can have different effects on how we feel. For example, fast and energetic music can make us feel more excited and motivated, while slow and gentle tunes can help us feel peaceful and content.
So, diving deeper into this, I did a small observation study of my family members & friends.
Methodology:
To conduct this research, I listened to various types of music and paid close attention to how I felt while listening. I also asked my friends and family about their experiences with music and how it made them feel. We discussed the songs we liked and why they evoked certain emotions.

Results:
Happy Tunes: I noticed that upbeat and cheerful music, like pop and some rock songs, made me feel energetic and happy. My friends and family shared similar experiences, saying that such music made them want to dance and have fun.
Sad Melodies: Slower and more emotional songs, like some ballads and classical pieces, sometimes made me teary-eyed or introspective. Some of my friends mentioned that this music helped them process their feelings when sad.
Calming Vibes: Gentle and soothing music, like nature sounds or soft instrumental pieces, relaxed me. It made me feel calm and peaceful, especially after a long day at school.

In my own experience, listening to my favourite songs can make even the most tedious chores or tasks more enjoyable. Whether I’m cleaning my room or doing homework, having music playing in the background can make the time go by faster and make me feel happier while doing it.
Of course, just like people have different tastes in food, we all have different tastes in music, too. What one person finds relaxing, another person might find annoying. And that’s perfectly okay! Listening to music that makes you feel good and suits your mood is essential.
So, the next time you feel happy, sad, excited, or anything in between, try putting on some of your favourite music and see how it makes you think. Pay attention to the emotions it brings out in you, and let the music work its magic on your mood!
