Kavu’s Determination

Triiiiiiiiiing….. Triiiiiiiiiing….. The third period has started, but Kavu is still lost in her thoughts. Even though it is Priyanka Ma’am’s period, and she is her favorite teacher, all her classmates are busy chit-chatting. Still, it doesn’t bother Kavu enough to get out of her imagination, even though she has the naughtiest benchmate.

Kavu, who is in her preteens, loves to find answers to questions as simple as “Why does zero have no value if it appears in front?” and as complex as “Why are all the planets spherical in shape?”

It keeps her curious mind constantly at work.

“Kavuu… Kavuu…!!” Somebody shattered her thoughts, and it was none other than Aanya.

“Let’s go..otherwise, the washroom will get”, she hurried.

“Yeah, yeah. I am coming,” said Kavu.

“Last time, we didn’t get a chance,” said Aanya.

The girl’s toilet was as busy as Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. Sometimes, it took half a period to come back from the washroom.

“Ugh…” wailed Aanya as she angrily faced Kavu.

“Kavu ! You always get us late”, said Aanya

“Stop squabbling, just relax,” comforted Kavu

Don’t you know we have a mock test to take…?!” Aanya’s voice was rising with anger.

“Ohhhh…I forgot, let’s hurry up,” Kavu realised.

“Finally…” Aanya sighed with relief, and they dashed off to their class.

This daily hassle of finding an available girls’ washroom was because there were only three girls’ toilets, which were always busy.

Aanya’s wrangling finally gave Kavu’s mind a new road to repair.

Now, Kavu observed that this was not only their problem but it added to the plight of all the girls on the floor.

“Hmm… why aren’t the school authorities looking for a solution?” thought Kavu. She felt this wasn’t the right moment to discuss it, as she had a mock test to complete.

The following day, Kavu waited impatiently for Priyanka Ma’am’s period to discuss this with her, as her benchmate had torn the class timetable off the notice board.

Today, Kavu was more focused in class, which made Aanya quite surprised. As soon as Priyanka Ma’am entered the class, Kavu’s hand shot up high.

“Excuse me, Ma’am, we have a problem to discuss,” Kavu said, very determined on this topic.

Ma’am listened patiently and asked all the girls, “Is this so?”

Nobody had thought before that this could also be a topic of discussion.

She suggested, “Let’s discuss it with the floor coordinator,” as she must have received similar complaints from other classes.

Kavu’s initiative had sparked a discussion.

Aanya’s eyes sparkled at Kavu’s active stance. She waited until the lunch break to talk more about it.

Later, she whispered, “Kavu, we don’t have the solution yet… Let’s go for now.”

Kavu started discussing with the other girls to come up with a possible solution. Meanwhile, the washroom monitor, Vaishnavi, was unhappy with the attention given to Kavu’s idea.

Vaishnavi argued, “Why are you discussing this here? Can’t you discuss it in class?”

Aanya whispered again, “She doesn’t see it as a problem.”

“Don’t worry!” Kavu replied. “Soon, she will also understand the power of unity.”

“And this will also help her, won’t it?” Aanya exclaimed.

The following day, the assembly was essential for Kavu. She had to present this problem to the principal, Ma’am.

“Excuse me, Principal Ma’am. I want to share a problem.”

Kavu’s powerful voice got everybody’s attention.

She explained the daily hassle to the Principal Ma’am and the floor coordinator.

Principal Ma’am was impressed by the young girl’s thinking and asked with a smiling face, “Do you have a solution?”

“Yes, Ma’am, indeed. We have some spare rooms that we can transform into additional girls’ washrooms for different grades.”

Principal Ma’am looked toward the floor coordinator, who nodded in confirmation.

This time, Kavu had found a solution on her own.

Principal Ma’am announced that the construction of the new washroom would begin the day after tomorrow.

Aanya, along with the other girls, lifted Kavu with joy.

Kavu felt very proud as she had accomplished something for her class and the whole floor.

Kavu had shown an example to all the other students of willpower and unity.

At last, she murmured.

Together We Can, Together We Will”.
