Internet : A Modern Drug For Brains

In today’s world, we have access to vast amounts of information online and we should be able to distinguish what is useful and what is not. Flooding our brains with an overwhelming amount of information that we consume online daily is becoming a drug for our brains.

Our brains are constantly being stimulated as we process this abundance amount of information that we ingest online daily. That is the key reason why some people lack motivation to complete daily tasks. It is tiresome and boring to complete everyday tasks nowadays because the brain craves stimulation.

In this world of thinking and more thinking, where every other thing you do or observe is saying to you “Think”, the idea of how to not think comes. It says “blah blah blah”, (it does not give you any advice or tell you to do something unique).

“One has to do nothing”, By giving no attention to anything in the physical world, thinking nothing (not exactly thinking nothing because apparently, you are “thinking” nothing), having no conclusion or judgment, and not consuming any type of content you can sober up your brain. Just being you, and observing your thoughts and sensations will be so generous.

There is even a meditation practice known as mindfulness, which involves paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and surroundings without judgment.

I see people or perhaps observe myself (yes I am no different) that when I feel stressed or anxious I just open my phone and start scrolling through social media, and all of my current sensations and feelings begin to numb as the brain demands space to absorb all of the new information.

The desire of the brain to consume all of the information available is undoubtedly one of the most dominant desires to fight for, but it is certainly a desire worth declining.

“The more you consume the more you desire”.
