I Am Sorry My Friend I Poem By Somya, 17, Kalyani

I Am Sorry My Friend

Hey, there

Just dropped by to say thanks

For I will be regretting,

If I lose another chance.

On Monday I lost my calm

And on Sunday I reflected upon

The mirror haunted me like horror

My mushy mind lay on the very border.

Apologising was no easy feat,

For my swollen ego would deflate

And I would not be able to compensate for my misdeeds,

Until it was too late.

Maybe I am exaggerating,

But you must really know

How memories just randomly surface,

Like the falling snow.

Tangible was my naivety,

For I was only ten

Though deep underneath, owing to my duality,

Lay a pure heart untamed.

Remember that, my friend,

My efforts never went in vain.

I bloomed like the bud that now possesses

Maturity with newfound intelligence.

It is nature’s very principle

that we must learn, we must grow

I did, and so did you—

Growth’s intrinsic beauty attained by only a few.

Maybe I will grow

Maybe you will too

I only hope these moments

Remind us of our youth.
