The Disappearing Time

Once upon a time, a very naughty boy named Anupam lived in the city. He didn’t do a single work properly, not even his studies. Every time he took an exam while writing long wrong answers, the time ran out, leaving him with incomplete papers. He also arrived late every time at school. This was why he got daily scolding’s from teachers, parents, etc. Slowly, he became frustrated and furious at a terrible word: ‘Time’. Anupam thought of ways to kill time, but none worked.

He snapped at it and ran out of his house in a lonely street corner. He started sobbing loudly. A fairy was going on her rounds on Earth. She saw Anupam crying loudly and rushed to him. She said, “I am the fairy queen. Why are you crying like this on the street? What happened? What’s the matter with you?”

Anupam replied, wiping his tears, “Nothing, I’m fine. You please go away & leave me alone.”

“Okay, okay, but tell me why you cried?”

“Time!! It’s a frustrating word!!”

“Stop crying, dear. Shall I make time disappear just for you?”

“Really! Will you? Do then.”

“Okay!” said the fairy & in a trice disappeared time from the whole world.

Anupam was so happy that he jumped around without any reason. He couldn’t just hold his cheers. He went to school late, ate tiffin anytime, did everything late & now and then, whatever he wished to. Anupam knew that the coming month, the tenth, was his birthday, and he would visit Berlin. For that, he often practiced making delicious cakes but putting them in the oven isn’t all. It needs a proper time to bake. He couldn’t even understand when his birthday came and went. And many more sad incidents occurred due to time again, but this is for its disappearance.

He started sobbing again. Once more, the fairy appeared and asked Anupam, “What happened now? You’ve got what you desire.”

“No, please, return time. I beg you. Now I can indeed understand its value.”

“Ha ha ha! It was just to teach you a lesson. Time is with you only.”

“Anu, come. Your dinner is ready, dear.” came a voice from the kitchen.

“Coming Mom! Thank you, fairy.” Anupam said and went happily.
