Bapu Lives Within Me

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, famously known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu, which means Father, was born in Porbandar, a town in Gujarat, on October 2, 1869. He was an Indian lawyer, widely loved by us fellow Indians, as he is one of the biggest freedom fighters who participated in the freedom struggle and made India free.

There are many qualities that Mahatma Gandhi possessed that other freedom fighters didn’t, making him different from the others. Some of these qualities that I admire are that Mahatma Gandhi chose the peaceful way to fight, and he did not want any violence. I try to implement some of those qualities in my daily life. Whenever I get angry or a fight starts, I try to calm down, finish the fight, and let bygones be bygones.

He protested peacefully and gave speeches to inspire and encourage people to join the freedom struggle and adopt peaceful means to achieve freedom. He also encouraged people to stop using British cloth and make their own. He was very humble and jailed by the British several times. They tortured him, but even then, he didn’t let his morale or spirit down. He always used a calm mind to strategize and analyse every move of the British very carefully so that India’s freedom struggle would be successful.

Many other fighters, like Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and many others, were very good friends of Mahatma Gandhi and helped him immensely. In fact, the nickname Bapu was given to Mahatma Gandhi by Subhash Chandra Bose after the death of Mahatma Gandhi’s wife, Kasturba Gandhi, on the Singapore Radio.

Unfortunately, our noble freedom fighter was assassinated by Nathuram Godse just months after our independence and died on January 30, 1948, at the age of 78. He had bullet wounds in the chest, stomach, and groin. His last words uttered were ‘Hey Ram, Hey Ram, Hey Ram.’

Till this day, his acts of generosity, determination, and spirituality are remembered!

JAI HIND!!!
