BAPU LIVES WITHIN ME

No one is perfect, but one who overcomes his weaknesses and becomes an honest person is someone to admire. An example of such a great individual is Bapu.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as Gandhi Ji or Bapu, the Father of the Nation, was never perfect. He made his own share of mistakes, but he was honest enough to admit them and try to resolve them. A hero for our country, he became a freedom fighter and fought until he set Bharat free. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948, not even a year after our freedom. Great people have had enemies.

As a young boy, Mohandas was very mischievous and did some unpleasant things. He smoked cigarettes, and to pay for them, he took his brother’s gold watch. He was naive and didn’t realize what he was doing was wrong, but when he did, he was truly ashamed of himself. He confessed to his father. Though he wasn’t scolded, he felt remorse and regretted all the  things he had done. From that day on, he swore to never cheat anyone again or do anything wrong.

We all can choose to be unaware or continue to indulge in bad things. Or become aware, realize our mistakes, and correct them. Therefore, I have decided to become a better person, to be aware, and to help make the lives of people around me better. Each one of us must strive to be a better person! Bapu lives within us, we just have to find him and live by his ideologies.
