A Pencil Talks
———————
Once upon a time in a house, there was a worn-out pencil. There was also a big and beautiful bookshelf in that house. The pencil was kept on the bookshelf. Everyone in the household loved the bookshelf, and guests admired its grandeur. Children sat around it and read books. The bookshelf became proud of itself. One day, the bookshelf told the pencil, “I have plenty of books on me, and I am so large and majestic. You look small and lame.” The pencil didn’t utter a word.
The bookshelf started saying this to the pencil every day. Finally, one day the pencil spoke, “Since pencils like me look lame now, it doesn’t mean we are useless. Writers from ancient times and current times used us to write their books. Children of this house wrote their first letters on their notebooks using us only. These books you are so proud of were first written using pencils. That’s the reason why we grow tinier day by day.”
Listening to this, the bookshelf felt ashamed of its actions and learned a valuable lesson: “Never judge others by their appearance. Everything has a role and is of some use in this world.”
