A Journey to Mangaluru : Bhoot Kola
Mangaluru
When your roots are in Mangalore, a trip there once a year is a must.
This places beauty cannot be measured in words however, in this review I will try to mention the serenity and beauty of this place.
The culture of Mangalore roots back to centuries, however practices are still prevalent even in these times.
Bhoot Kola

In Mangalore there is one major event which takes place with quite pomp and fervour known as Bhoota Kola, this is the practice of communicating with our gods. This usually takes place when a family is going through hard ships and one prays to the daiva, panjurli and varte , when they resolve the problem Bhoota Kola is kept in their honor .

Temples of Mangaluru
Mangalore is also known for its rich temples. You will find temples almost everywhere. Some of the temples which I found the most gorgeous were Bapanadu Temple, Kateel Temple, Munder Devasthana, Kapu Marigudi and Mahalakshmi uchila. The kings of South India were immensely wealthy, which is reflected in the grandeur of the temples they built, many of which feature gold embellishments as a mark of their wealth.
Sasihithlu Temple in Mangaluru

One of the most fascinating and enjoyable temples I’ve ever visited is the Sasihithlu Temple. It’s truly unique and absolutely worth a visit. Unlike typical temples built on concrete grounds, this one is set on sand, with the murti placed right at the center, creating a serene and distinctive atmosphere.
Cuisine of Mangaluru
Mangalore offers a delightful variety of flavorful cuisine. One dish that stood out to me was Menaskai a tangy, sweet and spicy curry made using mangoes, specifically the seed known locally as korant in South India.
Even the food served at temples is incredibly delicious, with a wide assortment of vegetable preparations and, in some places, meat dishes that are truly mouthwatering.
Mangaluru holds a special place in heart
Mangalore holds a special place in my heart not just because it’s my hometown, but because of its warm-hearted people and rich, vibrant culture that I deeply cherish. If someone were to ask me to choose one place for my final trip ever, without a doubt, I would choose Mangalore.
