Holi : The Festival of Colours – A Joyful Celebration for Kids!

Holi is one of the most exciting and colourful festivals celebrated in India! Known as the Festival of Colours, Holi is a day filled with laughter, bright powders, splashes of water, yummy sweets, and lots of fun with friends and family.

When is Holi Celebrated?

Holi is celebrated in the month of March, usually on the full moon day (called Purnima). It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring — a season of new flowers, fresh air, and bright sunshine!

The Story Behind Holi

Why Holi is the best festival ever

Holi is connected to a famous story about Prahlada, Holika, and Hiranyakashipu.

Long ago, there was a king named Hiranyakashipu who wanted everyone to worship him. But his son Prahlada believed in Lord Vishnu. The king became very angry and tried to punish Prahlada. He asked his sister Holika to sit in a fire with Prahlada because she had a magical shawl that protected her from flames.

But something amazing happened! Prahlada’s faith protected him, and Holika was burned instead. This teaches us that good always wins over evil.

The night before Holi, people celebrate Holika Dahan by lighting a bonfire to remember this story.
