The Hero Part Four : First Day- The New Home

Early Morning Surprise

It was early morning, nearly five o’clock. Arpit heard some banging sounds and the voice of Dr. Vishak saying, “Twenty more remain.” He woke up.

He had been sleeping on a massive bed in a very soft and spacious room. It was his first experience sleeping on such a large bed. The whole room was painted blue, and the items in the room—such as the bedsheets, shelves, wardrobes, and desk—were white, except for the ceiling, which was also white.

He stepped out of his room and walked into the central hall of the house, from where all the rooms were visible. There was a staircase directly in front of the entrance, and a white sofa set was placed in the center of the room. Nearly ten rooms were visible from the hall. The voices seemed to be coming from the terrace, so he went up the stairs, rubbing his eyes.

Training on the Terrace

He saw Dr. Vishak and his daughter exercising on the terrace. They were also practicing how to dodge or block sharp objects. To Arpit’s right, there was a small parkour setup.

It was the first time in his life he had woken up before six.

“There you are! Did we disturb you?” asked Dr. Vishak.

“Not at all, sir. I got plenty of rest,” Arpit replied.

“Would you like to check your powers? I also have a weapon for you.” Dr. Vishak threw a black badminton racket toward him.

Arpit caught it and said, “Are we going to play badminton here?”

“No, Arpit. Take a closer look,” said Dr. Vishak.

Arpit examined it. It was a black racket with two buttons on the handle. It also had a vertical rectangular display and uncovered iron wires instead of plastic strings.

“They are electromagnets. When you press and hold the button, it activates. It can shock anyone who touches the wires,” said Dr. Vishak, and he threw a nail towards Arpit.

Arpit tried to block the nail with the racket, but it didn’t stick to the wires because he hadn’t pressed the button.

“Press the button first!” said Dr. Vishak, throwing another nail toward him.

This time, Arpit pressed the button and then blocked the nail. It stuck to the wires, as the magnetic property was now active. A green horizontal line also appeared on the display at the bottom.

“What is that, doctor?” he asked.

“It’s the energy absorbed by the racket from the nail. Tap it on the ground, and you’ll see magic,” said Dr. Vishak.

Arpit softly tapped the racket on the ground, but the impact was not as soft as expected. Dust from the area shot into the air as if someone had struck the ground with great force.

“That’s the kinetic energy it absorbed from the nail. It will be useful for you,” said Dr. Vishak. “You should practice using your powers and weapons efficiently.”

“Let’s do it then!” said Arpit.

Discoveries and Reflections

He was thrilled to have this much power, especially after surviving thirteen years as a handyman.

They did some exercises, including planks, push-ups, pull-ups, and a bit of parkour practice. Even Dr. Vishak’s daughter was efficient in all the exercises—clearly used to doing them daily. Arpit felt a bit jealous of her.

From the top of the house, Arpit noticed a big yard both in front of and behind the house. It was beautiful and memorable, though there was no fountain. At that moment, Arpit missed the orphanage.

The Truth About the House

It was seven o’clock now. Dr. Vishak asked Arpit to go take a bath, while he went to the kitchen to prepare food. Arpit was quite surprised—the house was as big as a castle, yet the owner was cooking by himself. There wasn’t a single maid or servant to help.

After his bath, Arpit returned to his room. Still in his nightdress, he grew curious about the large wardrobe. He wanted to see what was in this much more significant wall drop because, as it was a guest room, nothing would be in it, but when he opened it, it was full of new clothes and had some suits. He took out one of them and examined it. It was accurately made to his size as it was made for Arpit only, but he had little doubt and went to the kitchen to ask Dr Vishak about it.

The kitchen was right in front of Arpit’s room. The walls and ceiling were white. On the wall behind the stove, there were tiles decorated with the image of the sun. Dr. Vishak, wearing a pink apron, was frying an egg in a pan and making toast in a toaster.

“Doctor, are the clothes in the wardrobe mine?” Arpit asked, still confused.

Dr. Vishak turned and smiled. “All the stuff in the room is yours, Arpit. Even this house—it was gifted to me by your father on my birthday.”

Now Arpit understood why such a vast house had no maid or servant. He felt overjoyed knowing the room truly belonged to him. He went back, picked out an emerald green shirt and black jeans, and got dressed.

A Breakfast and a Mission

“The breakfast is ready!” called Dr. Vishak.

Arpit went to the dining room beside his room. The dining table was made of dark oak wood with beautifully carved designs. As they began eating breakfast, Arpit couldn’t help but miss his best friend Aarav and the orphanage canteen.

“Well, I brought you from your orphanage to this house, but I don’t even know your name, boy. What is it?”  the girl asked.

Arpit looked at Dr. Vishak as if to say, You asked this girl to kidnap me, but she doesn’t even know my name.

“My name is Arpit. And yours?” he asked.

“My name is Amrita,” she replied. “Well, this is your first day with powers—don’t try to become a superhero.”

“Well, I won’t… or at least I’ll try my best!” he replied.

“Take this,” said Dr. Vishak, handing Arpit a small envelope and a rod-like object with two buttons. “I know you’re missing your orphanage. You should go and meet your best friend. But don’t meet Mr. Gupta—he’s filed a police complaint saying you’re missing. Enjoy your first day with powers.” He smiled warmly.

A Gift and a Goodbye

Arpit opened the envelope and found some money inside. He tucked it into his pocket.

“Thanks, Doctor. But what is this?” Arpit asked, holding up the rod.

“Press the second button,” said Dr. Vishak.

Arpit pressed it, and within a second, the rod transformed into the same black badminton racket he had used that morning.

“I won’t let you go out into the dangerous world without a weapon,” said Dr. Vishak. “Keep it safely in your pocket—or it might shock you. And when you press the button again, it will return to its rod form.”

“But Arpit, your orphanage is twenty kilometers away. How will you get there?” asked Amrita.

“That’s his problem, dear. If I help him at every step, he’ll never learn how to deal with challenges on his own. Am I right, Arpit?” he said, looking at him knowingly.

“Yes, Doctor, you’re right,” Arpit replied with confidence.

He soon finished his breakfast and got ready to return to his orphanage—with a new look, new abilities, and new powers. He stepped out of the house, bowed respectfully to Dr. Vishak, and said goodbye to Amrita.

To Face or to Flee

His journey ahead would be long and full of challenges. Many situations would test him, but Arpit would have two choices—leave it, or face it.
