Rainy Day – The Smell Of The Earth And Other Joys | Bookosmia

Rainy day - The smell of the earth and other joys

I woke up to the incessant pitter- patter of the raindrops on my window, as the pale blue sky slowly turned into patches of light grey.

An hour later, sitting by the window with a cup of steaming hot coffee in one hand and a book in the other, I watched an army of grumbling dark grey clouds march across the sky as the neighbours duly shut their windows.

Soon, the sky darkened further, the deafening thunder seemed to rattle the windows, the wind howled and the lightening danced playfully, illuminating the dark sky for a fraction of a second.

The trees swayed obediently to the rhythm of the ruthless wind.

Rainy day - The smell of the earth and other joys

I watched the cars come to sudden halt as the light drizzle turned into a heavy downpour, waterlogging the streets. Soon enough, the pitiless rain blurred the vision ahead.

As I opened the window a tiny bit, the scent of the fresh soil and the cold air on my face somehow refreshed me.

Looking down, I saw a group of people, all holding umbrellas in their hands, completely drenched in water, clearly hurrying home as fast as they could.

Rainy day - The smell of the earth and other joys

The stray animals out on the street ran for shelter from the torrential rain.

Nearing the end of the day, the rain receded from the heavy downpour to the slow drizzle.

Now, seeing the greenery and the tiny droplets of water on the lush green leaves glistening in the moonlight made me feel as though everything was alive once again.
