‘My Comical Family’ Essay by Yalini, 13, Chennai

My family is totally amusing and comical. We cousins are lovable and adorable, at least that’s what we feel!

Everyone calls us the ‘Gurls Gang’.

There is a famous temple festival in my native place and here’s what usually happens on the day of the festival.

We the ‘Gurls Gang’ dress-up almost like twins and wear the same dresses. We even match with the same accessories. My sister is the designer of the group as she combs our hair and makes it prettier than anyone else in the world can. And she also does makeup for us which looks so good.

On the festival morning, we wake up earlier in the morning than usual and enjoy drawing rangolis. My little sister loves to colour them up and we also decorate them up with flowers.

We prepare a sweet with raw rice flour and jaggery and make it into round balls and carry those to temples and praise god.

We enjoy eating ice-creams, chocolates and more food items on that day. And at the night time the whole house is full of guests and we start to decorate our house with yellow and orange flowers and start to prepare pongal in the outside of our house using a pot then we keep decorative candles and burn crackers and we totally enjoy the day a lot.  We end the day taking thousands of selfies and even those with funny filters and effects!

We sleep only by 2 am and wake up the next day only at 11 am. These are all the things I do on the family get-togethers. But due to this covid situation, we haven’t met each other for one year but we see each other through video calls. There there isn’t a love as special as the one cousins have for each other.
